U.S Consul General Urges Ghanaian Applicants To Adhere To Visa Rules

The Consul General at the United States Embassy in Ghana, Elliot Fertik, has appealed to Ghanaians to adhere to rules when applying for American visa.

He made the appeal while speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

According to him, visa denials by the US Embassy in Accra, Ghana are not deliberate.

He says applicants who follow the right procedures and requirements in applying for their visas stand a fair chance of being granted a visa.

Mr Fertik says the American Embassy staff in Ghana ensure that the visa process is transparent and guided by well-established rules.
The requirements are strict; we do absolutely look carefully at each individual applicant to make sure that they are qualified and do not pose any problem for the United States, but if you abide by the rules, we will welcome you in the United States.”

According to him, Ghanaians have consistently benefited from the U.S. visa system over the years: “There are many Ghanaians who have had wonderful experiences going on a short trip to the United States.”
When asked whether there is a quota for issuing U.S. visas, Consul General Elliot Fertik firmly stated that there is no such quota, emphasising that each application is assessed on its individual merit, based on eligibility and adherence to the requirements and not on any fixed number.

“For non-immigrant visas, no. I can say that there are some for immigrant visas; we do have a quota or limit for each individual country, but for non-immigrant visas, there is not a quota.”

He urged prospective travellers to use only the official application channels and avoid third-party agents or consultants, who often mislead applicants and compromise their chances of success.

The Consul General reaffirmed the embassy’s commitment to fairness, urging Ghanaians to prepare adequately, provide truthful information, and avoid shortcuts in the application process.
