The New Patriotic Party (NPP), the main opposition party of Ghana, will hold its presidential primaries early next year.
According to the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Koduah, the NPP will hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.
He said the date was set after the party’s National Council adopted a proposal from the NPP’s Constitution Review Committee.
He says the timing of the presidential primaries will not be subject to approval by the delegates conference as the National Council has already exercised its mandate to approve it.
Mr. Koduah explained that “The date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31,2026. That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries. Because there is going to be a proposal or motion for amendment of our constitution, a planning committee has been put in place.”
Also, a nine-member committee chaired by former Bekwai Member of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu has been selected to plan the July 2025 national delegates conference to adopt other recommendations for the amendment of the party’s constitution.
Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, led the NPP into the December 7, 2024 presidential election of Ghana and lost miserably to then opposition leader and now President, John Dramani Mahama.
