At least seven people including a two-year old child, have died in a helicopter crash in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand.

Officials and local media reports say the helicopter was flying from Kedarnath through a popular Hindu pilgrimage route in the Himalayan mountains.

India Directorate General of Civil Aviation says the pilot was also killed.

According to the Directorate, India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will investigate the crash.

India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation says the Aryan Aviation Bell 407 helicopter VT-BKA, took off on Sunday, June 15, 2025, after 5:15 local time.

It says five passengers, one child and one crew member were on board the helicopter bound for Guptkashi.

In a tweet, the Uttarakhand state’s chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami says the crash was a “very sad news.”

The helicopter crash comes just days after an Air India plane AI171 bound for London crashed 30 seconds after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport, killing about 270 people.
