Police in South Africa have raised concerns over the rising number of women being killed across South Africa, with the body of the latest woman allegedly killed being found by roadside.

According to the South Africa Police Service (SAPS), the recent murders of women in the Sandton area in Johannesburg are concerning.

Police disclosed that they have found the bodies of three women dumped in Sandton on separate occasions, with the most recent case being that of 30-year-old Olorato Mongale.

Mongale’s body was found on the side of the road in Lombardy West on Sunday afternoon after she went on a date.

South Africa Police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, has warned women in the country to inform family and friends about their whereabouts.

According to Mathe, “We are picking up similar cases in the area of Sandton. On the 8th of May, we picked up a lifeless body of a female in Sandton, which was dumped just like Olorato was dumped in Katherine Street in Sandown.”

Mathe says “We had a similar case as well in Sandton, I think it was in April, where a lifeless body of a female was also dumped. So, we are urging women out there to be extra vigilant of their surroundings and always, if you do not feel comfortable, do not go out on that particular date.”
