Members of Parliament (MPs) from the camp of Ghana’s opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have asked President John Dramani Mahama to take tough actions against Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) for openly donating dollars to controversial Ghanaian spiritual leader and former fetish priestess-turned-evangelist, Patricia Oduro Koranteng, widely known as Nana Agradaa.
As earlier reported, a viral video recently emerged showing Mr. Gyamfi handing over an undisclosed amount of US dollars to Nana Agradaa.
Addressing journalists in Parliament on Monday, May 12, 2025, an MP of the NPP on the Finance Committee of Parliament, Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama says Sammy Gyamfi’s conduct was a shameful arrogance and a display of financial recklessness.
According to Dr. Mahama, “Suddenly encapsulates the arrogance, hypocrisy, and gross insensitivity that have come to define the NDC government under President John Dramani Mahama.”
He expressed disappointment over the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s handling of financial matters, labelling it a direct affront to citizens who are already facing the crippling effects of inflation and an ever-increasing cost of living.
He said: “This display of financial recklessness is not only a betrayal of public trust but also a slap in the face of the millions of Ghanaians currently grappling with the devastating effects of cedi inflation and the unbearable cost of living.”
He observed that “It is even more shameful that this act was committed by someone who has, in the past, championed populist rhetoric about economic discipline, cedi loyalty, and anti-corruption.”
Sammy Gyamfi summoned
As previously reported,
Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has already summoned Sammy Gyamfi over the dollar gift saga.
Reports say Sammy Gyamfi has been asked to appear before the Chief of Staff to explain the circumstances surrounding the transaction, which has sparked widespread public criticism and raised concerns over the ethical conduct of public officials.
After the video went viral, critics opined that the donation undermined President John Mahama’s recently unveiled Code of Conduct for Public Officials in Ghana, which emphasizes integrity, accountability, and transparency in public service.
The Code of Conduct was unveiled to fight corruption and restore public trust in government institutions in Ghana.
Apology:
Meanwhile, Sammy Gyamfi has apologized publicly for making the donation to Nana Agradaa.
