President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially commissioned the highly anticipated Kampala Flyover Project, marking a significant milestone in Uganda’s infrastructure development. The project, situated in Kampala’s Central Business District, aims to ease traffic congestion and improve the city’s road networks.
The Kampala Flyover Project is part of the government’s broader strategy to modernize urban transport and drive economic growth. With a total investment of approximately $200 million, the project is being implemented by Shimizu/Konoike Joint Venture, with construction oversight provided by Nippon Koei and ICS, a leading Japanese engineering company.
The project was funded by the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The first phase of the project, which was commissioned on March 6, 2025, is expected to greatly improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the city.
This landmark project is designed to last over 100 years, with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) pledging to maintain the infrastructure to ensure it fulfills its purpose throughout its entire lifespan.
