In a significant move to boost Ghana’s economic prospects, the Head of Office of UNESCO in Ghana, Edward Moukaila, has advised the Ghana Culture Forum (GCF) to prioritize innovation and talent development in the cultural and creative industries. This strategic focus is expected to drive economic growth, address youth needs, and promote cultural preservation.

During a meeting with the GCF leadership, Moukaila reiterated UNESCO’s commitment to providing resources and expertise to aid in the development of cultural policies that resonate with local communities. He emphasized the importance of leveraging culture as a tool to tackle contemporary challenges, while positioning youth at the core of sustainability efforts.

The GCF, a membership-based civil society consultative forum, aims to ensure the development of a vibrant cultural sector that contributes to Ghana’s economic growth ¹. The forum’s plans for 2025 include advocacy and research within the cultural sector, as well as the 2025 Ghana Culture Week Celebrations scheduled for March next year.

Both UNESCO and the GCF expressed optimism about future collaborations, focusing on leveraging UNESCO’s global network to enhance local cultural initiatives. The meeting also discussed potential projects addressing key challenges facing the cultural sector in Ghana, including funding and capacity building.

This pivotal meeting marks a significant step in strengthening partnerships between local cultural organizations and international bodies like UNESCO, aiming to foster a vibrant cultural landscape in Ghana.
