Ugandan Members of Parliament Arrested Ahead of Corruption Protest

Some Members of Parliament (MPs) have been arrested at the National Unity Platform Offices in Makerere-Kavule, Kampala, Uganda, ahead of a planned demonstration.

The Ugandan Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Rusoke Kituuma, says the ignored a prior advisory against their planned demonstration to the Ugandan Parliament.

The MPs arrested are Hassan Kirumira of Katikamu South, Francis Tebandeke of Bbaale County, and Francis Zaake of Mityana Municipality.

The lawmakers had gathered for a press conference but were detained.

The demonstration, slated for Tuesday, July 23, 2024, seeks to register Ugandans displeasure over rising corruption.
