At least nine people have been reported dead and 25 others injured in terror attacks on churches and synagogues in Russia.
According to reports, those killed were seven law enforcement officers, a priest and a church security guard.
The Russian news agency, TASS reported that four “militans” were also killed.
The attacks on Sunday, June 23, 2024, were reportedly carried out in Russia’s southernmost Dagestan province.
Local authorities and media reports said attacks were carried out in churches, synagogues and a police traffic stop in two cities namely Derbent and Makhachkala. The cities are said to be about 120km (75 miles) apart.
Speaking about the killing of the priest, Dagestan Public Monitoring Commission Chairman, Shamil Khadulaev, stated that “According to the information I received, Father Nikolay was killed in the church in Derbent, they slit his throat. He was 66-years-old and very ill.”
