Police in South Africa have arrested a “wanted fugitive”, Beninese activist, Kemi Seba, who is allegedly linked to the foiled coup in Benin.

According to police, Seba was allegedly attempting to flee to Europe through Zimbabwe.

Seba, real name Stellio Gilles Robert Capo Chichi, is wanted in Benin on charges of “inciting rebellion” after supporting the foiled coup in Benin in 2025.

According to South African police, he was arrested on Monday alongside his 18-year-old son in a sting operation at a shopping centre in Pretoria.

Police say a “facilitator” who had allegedly been paid to help them illegally cross to Zimbabwe was also detained.
