A retired Nigerian Army Major-General, Rabe Abubakar, and his wife have been kidnapped by suspected terrorists in Nigeria’s Katsina State.
Reports say Abubakar and his wife were travelling through Katsina when gunmen allegedly ambushed their vehicle and whisked them away to an undisclosed location.
The Director of Defence Media operations of the Defence Headquarters, reportedly told the BBC that efforts were underway to rescue Abubakar and his wife.
Katsina remains one of Nigeria’s most dangerous states.
In March this year, three soldiers were killed by terrorists during a gun battle in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Abubakar is the latest retired senior army officer to be abducted in Katsina.
In February 2025, Maharazu Tsiga, a retired major general and former director general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was abducted in the Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina. Tsiga spent 56 days in captivity before being freed.
