Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned his grandson, Ruhamya Kainerugaba, as a second lieutenant in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), extending the family’s military legacy into a third generation.
The commissioning took place at the Uganda Military Academy in Kabamba, where President Museveni presided over a passing-out ceremony for 280 officer cadets.
Ruhamya is the son of Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Celebrating the milestone on X, Gen. Muhoozi described the UPDF as “God’s Army” and prayed for God’s blessings upon his son.
Ruhamya completed his officer cadet training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom in August, alongside fellow Ugandan officer cadet Andrew Bakira. His father, Gen. Muhoozi, is also a Sandhurst alumnus, having graduated from the academy in 2000.
The development marks a continuation of the Museveni family’s long-standing involvement in Uganda’s military leadership.
