GRA Visits Ga Mantse

Ga Mantse

 

Officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) led by their Board Chairman, Hon. Joe Ghartey, has paid a courtesy call on the Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II.

 

During the visit on July 18, 2924, Hon. Ghartey observed that the Ghana Revenue Authority cannot do with the help of institutions such as the Chieftaincy institution.

 

The visit to the Ga Mantse was the first of the visits by GRA to solicit the support of traditional authorities in the execution of its mandate.

 

Hon. Ghartey noted one of the most resilient if not the most resilient institution in Ghana was the institution of Chieftancy.

 

 

He noted that in spite of the serious attack on the institution especially during the colonial era, the institution of chieftaincy has survived. Hon. Ghartey stated that Ghanaians respect their Chiefs and so does GRA. He said GRA was going to deepen its relationship with Chiefs across the country for the purpose of delivering on its mandate and engaging and educating the public.

 

On his part the Ga Mantse stated that he wished GRA well and made particular mention of the Commissioner General, Ms. Julie Essiam and congratulated her on her appointment and urged her to make Ghana and women proud.

 

Nii Ga also noted that he had learnt of the recent improvement of revenue collection and urged GRA to keep the good work up.

 

Meanwhile, the Ga Manste thanked Hon. Ghartey for his public service.

 

The Ga Mantse said Hon. Ghartey had served the nation well. Hon Joe Ghartey is a five term Member of Parliament.

 

He has also been Deputy Attorney General and Deputy Minister of Justice from 2005 to 2006 and Attorney General from June 2006 to January 2009. He was Deputy Speaker of Parliament from 2013 to January 2017 and then Minister for Railways Development from 2017 to January 2021. Joe Ghartey is currently the Chair of the Board of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
