A Ghanaian soldier has died during a counter-terrorism training exercise.
Reports say the military officer, identified as Private Adotey, died in the Upper East after a blast occurred at Binduri during the training held under ‘Exercise Storm Shield’.
Private Adotey, a physical training instructor with the 6 Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces, reportedly died while trying to rescue his fellow officers at the scene of the blast.
Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, announced the death of Private Adotey during the closing ceremony of the training exercise held at the 11 Mechanised Battalion in Bazua.
Exercise Storm Shield which took place over a period of 10 days, was conducted in Bawku, Pusiga, and Binduri as part of Ghana’s efforts to counter terrorism and other forms of violent extremism.
