A bus accident in Ethiopia’s mountainous northern region has killed at 31 persons, according to Ethiopian police.
Several other passengers were injured, the police confirmed. Reports say the bus was overcrowded.
According to reports, the bus veered off the road while travelling to the capital, Addis Ababa, early on Monday and plunged into a ravine approximately 100 metres (330 feet) deep.
The bus had departed from the town of Dessie in the northern Amhara region of Ethiopia.
The Amhara region’s roads are among the most dangerous in the world.
Reports say the accident occurred on a zigzagging mountainous road known as Harego.
The Associated Press news agency reported that several people died because they received medical attention too late.
