Ghanaian music sensation Black Sherif unexpectedly appeared in the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). These surprising students encountered him in a Creative Arts and Design question.
In section B, Question 5(c) of the examination asked candidates to provide a short note about Black Sherif alongside composers Ephraim Amu and Agya Koo Nimo. The note required details such as the composer’s hometown, genre of work, an example of his works, and contributions to society.
Black Sherif gained prominence in March 2022 with his smash hit single ‘Kwaku the Traveller’, which soared to Number 1 on Ghanaian and Nigerian Apple Music charts. His debut album, The Villain Never Was, followed on October 5, 2022, further cementing his status in the music industry.
The inclusion of Black Sherif in the BECE exam highlights the role of Creative Arts and Design in fostering self- expression, skill development, and cultural appreciation among learners. The subject encourages students to explore artistic endeavours, manage stress, and derive personal satisfaction through creative pursuits. The 2024 BECE, which commenced on July 8, 2024, will conclude on July 15, 2024, marking an essential assessment for students across Ghana.
