Ghana: Bawumia mourns former NPP Chairman Samuel Odoi-Sykes

Former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Samuel Odoi-Sykes, a founding member and former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Dr Bawumia described the late Odoi-Sykes as a significant figure in the history of the NPP and Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

Odoi-Sykes served as National Chairman of the NPP and later represented Ghana as High Commissioner to Canada.

Dr Bawumia highlighted his contribution to the party, particularly his leadership during the 2000 general elections, when the NPP secured its first electoral victory in the Fourth Republic.

“He holds an honoured place in our history, having led the Party to its first general election victory in the Fourth Republic in 2000,” Dr Bawumia said.

The former Vice President said Odoi-Sykes’ service to both the NPP and Ghana would be remembered for years to come.

He extended his condolences to the deceased’s family and loved ones, describing his passing as a loss to the party and the country.

“My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones,” Dr Bawumia wrote.

He concluded his tribute by bidding farewell to the former NPP Chairman and praying for his soul to rest in perfect peace.

“Farewell, Chairman. May your soul rest in perfect peace,” he said.
