The AU Commission Chairperson also briefed the Prime Minister on the Union’s ongoing institutional reform process.

During the meeting, Youssouf praised Burkina Faso for being among the early countries to ratify the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, describing the move as evidence of the country’s longstanding commitment to the African Union’s shared principles and normative frameworks.

He further stressed the need for stronger regional cooperation to address common peace, security and development challenges, highlighting the importance of collaborative mechanisms such as the Nouakchott Process.

For his part, Prime Minister Ouédraogo reaffirmed Burkina Faso’s support for the African Union’s institutional reform agenda. He also underscored the country’s commitment to strengthening the Union’s financial independence through enhanced domestic resource mobilisation, reinforcing Burkina Faso’s support for a more self-reliant African Union.

The meeting formed part of Chairperson Youssouf’s engagements with Burkina Faso’s leadership aimed at strengthening cooperation between the African Union and its member states while advancing shared continental priorities.
