The President John Dramani Mahama has officially cut the sod for Phase II of the Sentuo Oil Refinery expansion project in Tema, reinforcing the Ghanaian government’s focus on industrialization, energy security, and private-sector-led growth.
The expansion of the Sentuo Oil Refinery is being positioned as a major milestone in Ghana’s drive to strengthen local petroleum refining capacity, reduce dependence on imported refined fuel, and create jobs. The President described it as a key part of Ghana’s broader industrial transformation agenda.
The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, said the project reflects strong investor confidence in Ghana and supports government efforts to boost local manufacturing, value addition, and job creation.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, emphasized that expanding refining capacity will improve energy security, stabilize fuel supply, and reduce exposure to global oil price volatility.
The Sentuo Group, led by Executive Chairman Mr. Xu Ningouan, assured the government that the project will meet international standards, with emphasis on environmental sustainability, operational efficiency, and local participation. The company also expects the expansion to significantly increase production capacity and strengthen Ghana’s petroleum value chain.
The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Cong Song, described the project as a symbol of win-win cooperation between Ghana and China.
