The First Lady of one of Africa’s impoverished nations, Sierra Leone, Fatima Jabbe-Bio, has been evicted from her council flat in London after holding onto the property since 2018.

She was evicted after being caught retaining the tenancy of “a taxpayer-subsidised flat in Southwark”, local UK media outlet, GB News reported on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

According to the report, madam Bio’s continuous stay in the flat “violated” housing rules which stipulated a council property must be a person’s principal residence.

The report added that the violation by the Sierra Leonean First Lady resulted in a 12-month investigation from the council’s housing team.

First Lady Jabbe-Bio was living in a two-bed flat for over a decade, but left in 2018 when she moved to Sierra Leone after her husband, Julius Maada Bio, was elected President.

According to the report, the Southwark Council has now taken possession of the property and it will be allocated to a family genuinely in need.

GB News quoted Reginald Popoola, Southwark’s executive member for council homes, as saying “I look forward to bringing this council property back to its original purpose which is to provide a safe and secure home for people with legitimate housing needs on the council’s waiting list.”
