Kenyan President, William Ruto, has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to advancing climate resilience across the continent, highlighting the deepening partnership with the Global Centre on Adaptation (GCA) and the establishment of its Africa headquarters in Nairobi.
In a statement shared on Facebook Tuesday, February 24, 2026, President Ruto said the collaboration is already yielding tangible benefits for Kenya and the wider African region.
“Our partnership with the Global Centre on Adaptation (GCA) continues to strengthen Kenya and Africa’s climate action. The collaboration gives priority to resilient infrastructure, agriculture and water management,” President Ruto stated.
The President noted that hosting the GCA’s Africa headquarters in Nairobi positions Kenya at the heart of continental climate adaptation efforts and financing.
“With the Africa headquarters of the organisation being established in Nairobi, the GCA will continue playing a key role in unlocking finance for climate adaptation, especially through the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Programme,” he said.
The Africa Adaptation Acceleration Programme is designed to mobilize resources and scale up practical interventions that help communities cope with the growing impacts of climate change.
“The programme is building resilience and confronting the harsh realities of climate change with practical and lasting solutions,” President Ruto added.
President Ruto wrote on Facebook after meeting Macky Sall, who chairs the GCA Supervisory Board, at State House Nairobi on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
“Met Supervisory Board of GCA Chair Macky Sall, who is also the former President of Senegal, at State House Nairobi,” President Ruto noted.
Kenya has positioned itself as a regional leader in climate action, championing adaptation financing and sustainable development initiatives amid increasing climate-related challenges such as droughts and erratic weather patterns across Africa.
