At least 30 people are feared dead following a violent attack by armed militants in Dutsin Dan Ajiya Village, located in Anka Local Government Area, on Thursday, February 19.
Residents told reporters that the attackers, who arrived on motorbikes, encircled the village, blocking all escape routes before opening fire on homes and residents. “They started shooting sporadically and set upon houses for hours. About 30 people were killed, and many others were kidnapped and taken into the nearby forest,” one villager said.
The following morning, families were still searching for missing loved ones, many of whom were unaccounted for after the assault. Authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties or those abducted.
The attack comes just a day after Major General Christopher Musa visited Zamfara to commission 25 advanced armored vehicles, surveillance equipment, and drones provided by Dauda Lawal in an effort to bolster security in the state.
Local security forces are reportedly mobilizing to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of the abducted villagers, while residents continue to live in fear amid repeated militant raids in the region.
