The Anambra State government has vowed to prosecute a 29-year-old woman, Osinachi Ede, accused of torturing her 17-year-old maid with a hot electric iron. The incident reportedly occurred after the student, who attends Community Secondary School, Agulu, used her phone to make a call without permission.
Ede was arrested by police on February 3, 2026, according to reports. The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, addressed the suspect in her office in Awka on Friday, February 20, stating that the matter would be taken to a court of competent jurisdiction.

“The suspect will be arraigned before the court for brutalising the victim. This serves as a deterrent to others who might engage in such acts,” Chuma-Udeh said. She also directed that the victim, who had been staying with relatives, be returned to Awka, emphasizing the state government’s commitment to child protection.

The commissioner stressed that the action reflects the resolve of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to ensure the welfare and safety of every child in Anambra schools. “The full weight of the law will be applied against anyone found guilty of child abuse in the state,” she warned.
