NDLEA Foils Cocaine Export to UK Linked to Convicted Drug Lord in Ikoyi Prison,Nigeria

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has disrupted an unusual drug trafficking attempt involving a convicted Nigerian drug Lord who allegedly tried to export cocaine to the United Kingdom while serving a prison sentence in Lagos.

The suspect, Olashupo Michael Oladimeji, is currently serving a five-year jail term at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre. Despite his incarceration, authorities say he masterminded a plan to ship 1.10 kilograms of cocaine to London, using his logistics company as cover.

In a statement issued on Sunday, February 15, 2026, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi disclosed that operatives intercepted the illicit consignment at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

According to the agency, the cocaine was tightly compressed and concealed inside a sack of processed cassava granules, commonly known as garri, which was further packed into a carton for export on a Virgin Atlantic flight.

A staff member of Oladimeji’s company, Dimeji Express Logistics, identified as Adedeji Yusuf Gbolahan, was arrested after presenting the consignment for shipment. Investigators say preliminary findings indicate that Oladimeji coordinated the operation from inside prison and instructed his employee to collect the package from a location in Oshodi.

NDLEA officials revealed that Oladimeji was arrested in 2025 over a separate case involving the attempted export of 17.90 kilograms of cocaine. He was prosecuted, convicted, and sentenced by a Federal High Court in Lagos but allegedly refused to abandon the drug trade even behind bars.

“This case shows the length some convicted traffickers are willing to go to continue their criminal activities,” the agency noted, adding that investigations are ongoing to uncover other accomplices and possible lapses exploited in the process.

The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to tightening surveillance at airports and logistics hubs and ensuring that even incarcerated offenders are unable to run drug networks from prison, as part of broader efforts to curb narcotics trafficking in Lagos and beyond.
