The Ghana Police Service says it is investigating the circumstances leading to a Ghanaian policewoman shooting a taxi driver dead.
In a statement dated Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the Police Service said the shooting incident happened on January 19, 2026 around the Tetegu area near Weija in the Greater Accra Region.
The statement, signed by Deputy Superintendent of, Richmond Mensah, says “preliminary investigations indicate that a policewoman, allegedly shot a taxi driver following a confrontation.”
“The driver, who was operating a Hyundai i10 taxi cab was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment but he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital,” the statement revealed.
It says “investigation further indicates that the policewoman was hit by a vehicle and sustained injuries to her head and both legs struck as she attempted leaving the scene. She is currently on admission receiving medical attention.”
The statement indicated that exhibits recovered from the incident scene include one live 9mm round, a magazine, and one empty 9mm cartridge.
