Ghana: Court Orders Psychiatric Assessment for Social Media Figure Ebo Noah

The Adentan Circuit Court has remanded Evans Eshun, popularly known on social media as Ebo Noah, into police custody and directed that he undergo a psychiatric evaluation at a government medical facility ahead of further proceedings in his case.

The order was issued when the accused appeared before the court, presided over by Her Honour Angela Attachie, which adjourned the matter to January 15, 2026, for his next appearance.

Charges and Background

Prosecutors identified Eshun as a 33-year-old private security guard who is facing a charge of publishing false news with intent to cause fear and panic. The charge relates to a series of videos he posted on Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube between August and December 2025, using the account name @Ebonoah.

In the videos, the accused claimed that the world would be destroyed by a flood on December 25, 2025, and that he was constructing an ark to save people from the impending disaster.

According to the prosecution, the statements were made without lawful authority and were calculated to alarm the public, particularly given their wide circulation on social media platforms.

Police Arrest and Admissions

The Ghana Police Service, which is the complainant in the case, told the court that Eshun was arrested on December 31, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation at Weija-Gbawe in the Greater Accra Region.

Investigators said the accused admitted in a cautioned statement that he created and shared the videos. He also acknowledged that his claims about an impending global flood were false.

Eshun further explained to police that the boat he described as an “ark” did not belong to him but to a fisherman at a boat yard in Edina, in the Central Region.

The court ordered the psychiatric examination to help determine the accused’s mental state as part of the judicial process. He remains in custody and is expected to be brought back before the court on January 15, 2026, when the psychiatric report is likely to be considered and the case will proceed.

The matter has drawn public attention due to the growing influence of social media and concerns over the spread of misinformation capable of causing public fear.
