Nigeria: Police Operation in Katsina Ends with Death of Alleged Drug Trafficker

A police operation targeting suspected drug activity in Katsina State has resulted in the death of an alleged drug dealer following a confrontation with security operatives.

The incident occurred on Saturday night, December 27, 2025, at Sabuwar Anguwa in Katsina Local Government Area. According to reports, a Central Market Surveillance Team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Audu Isah carried out a raid based on intelligence linking the area to drug trafficking and gang-related activities.

During the operation, officers arrested a suspect identified as Uzairu Abubakar, popularly known as “Uzairu Kuda,” who was described as a known drug peddler and an alleged member of the Kauraye gang. Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that substances believed to be Indian hemp, along with Pregabalin tablets and Colorado, were recovered from the suspect at the time of arrest.

Police sources said the suspect resisted arrest and raised an alarm, which reportedly drew the attention of other suspected gang members. The situation escalated when the officers came under attack, including damage to a covert police vehicle.
