Ghana: 27 Arrested in Festive Anti-Drug Crackdown

Security agencies in the Savannah Region,Ghana have intensified efforts to curb crime during the Christmas festivities, leading to the arrest of 27 individuals suspected of drug-related offences.

According to the Savannah Regional Police Command, the arrests were made during a special security operation conducted across Salaga, Damongo, Buipe and Bole as part of broader measures to ensure public safety during the holiday period.

In a statement released on December 26 via the official Ghana Police Service Facebook page, police said the suspects—men and women—were found with quantities of narcotic drugs, including dried plant material believed to be Indian hemp.

The operation forms part of nationwide festive-season policing strategies aimed at preventing drug abuse, violent crime and other security threats commonly associated with large social gatherings during holidays.

Police say all 27 suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations, after which those found culpable will be processed in accordance with the law.
