A fatal shooting occurred on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at a mining company in Adelekezu near Dadwen in the Axim District, Western Region, leaving a young boy dead. The incident sparked a massive and destructive rampage by local youth, resulting in extensive damage to company property.
The Western Regional Police Command has launched a full investigation, confirming that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the ensuing violence.

Details of the Incident
Police confirmed that the events began after a dispute between local youth and the company’s private security personnel. Reports indicate that some youths attempted to seize a security officer’s pump-action gun, which he resisted.
During the struggle, the officer fired the weapon, hitting the boy. The victim was rushed to Axim Government Hospital but was tragically pronounced dead on arrival.
Community Rampage and Damage
The boy’s death reportedly enraged local youth, who went on a rampage at the site. The mob set fire to two 4×4 SUVs and two tipper trucks, and also severely damaged a pickup truck and a Toyota Land Cruiser.
Workers at the site were threatened, but police were able to respond quickly and rescue 11 individuals from the escalating violence.

Arrests and Charges
Authorities have arrested five suspects on charges related to causing harm and unlawful damage:
- Gyenyame Owusu (38)
- Matthew Asamah (24)
- Nana Yaw (15)
- Yaw Opoku (16)
- Kojo Agyei (21)
The Western Regional Police Command is calling on community members to remain calm and cooperate with investigations to ensure justice is served for all parties involved.
