Police in Nigeria’s Imo State have arrested two individuals for unlawfully possessing firecrackers.
The two male suspects are Opara Evans, age 35, and Chinedu Stanley, age 29.
Police said their arrest followed an intelligent surveillance operation carried out along Alaba Market and Relief Markets Owerri.

According to Police, during the arrest, large quantities of banned explosives and firecrackers were retrieved.
The Imo State Police Command’s Imagemaker, DSP Henry Okoye, who confirmed the arrest of the two, said the state has totally banned the use, sale, distribution and possession of all forms of fireworks, knockouts, bangers, and other explosive devices.
According to him, “Anyone found violating this directive will be arrested and charged to court. Residents, parents, and traders are strongly advised to desist from dealing in these banned items and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station. The Imo State Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring a peaceful, safe, and joyful festive season for all Imolites, and urges residents to celebrate responsibly.’’
