Several people have been reported trapped after a two-storey building collapsed in the early hours of Monday in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred at 54 Cole Street, near Cemetery Bus Stop, and was confirmed in a situation report released by Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
According to Adeseye, the Sari-Iganmu Fire Station team was dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving a distress call around 12:20 a.m.
Preliminary reports indicate that the building, which had previously shown visible signs of structural distress, suddenly gave way while residents were still inside.
So far, 15 people — including seven men, four women, and four children — have been rescued with varying degrees of injuries. The victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute-Metta and the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island for treatment.

As of press time, rescue operations were still ongoing as emergency responders continued efforts to locate others who might still be trapped under the rubble.
Lagos has witnessed several tragic building collapses in recent years. In November 2021, a high-rise luxury apartment building under construction in Ikoyi collapsed, killing at least 42 people. Similarly, in September 2025, a four-storey building under construction in Yaba also collapsed, leaving many dead and others trapped.

Authorities have reiterated calls for strict enforcement of building standards to prevent further incidents of this nature.
