A construction worker trapped beneath the rubble of a collapsed building at Kasoa New Market in the Central Region has been successfully rescued after a two-hour operation.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) led the rescue effort, carefully removing debris to reach the victim. Paramedics on standby provided pain relief and emergency care throughout the process to stabilize the injured worker.
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, sustained a serious leg injury. He was initially taken to the Kasoa Polyclinic and later transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for further treatment.
Two other workers who were at the site escaped unhurt.
Awutu Senya East Municipal Chief Executive, Seth Sabah Serwonoo Banini, commended the professionalism and swift response of the emergency teams.
“We are grateful to God and to the Fire and Ambulance Service teams. They performed their duties professionally, and a medical team was ready at the Polyclinic to receive the victim right after his rescue,” he said.
The incident reportedly occurred when the front section of a residential building under renovation gave way. The owner, identified as Ali Charles, had hired three masons to reinforce the structure after detecting cracks.
Officials from the Municipal NADMO office and the Works and Engineering Department of the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly are expected to conduct a full investigation into the cause of the collapse. Authorities have since cordoned off the building and evacuated all occupants for safety reasons.
