The Ghana Education Service (GES) has distributed more than 6.6 million sanitary pads to schoolgirls across all 16 regions of the country as part of activities commemorating the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyii, on Saturday, October 11, the GES said the initiative seeks to address menstrual hygiene challenges and ensure that no girl misses school due to her menstrual cycle.
A total of 6,607,095 sanitary pads have been distributed to girls from the basic to second-cycle levels. The intervention fulfills the government’s pledge to provide free sanitary pads to schoolgirls monthly throughout their education.
According to the Service, the initiative highlights the government’s continued commitment to improving menstrual hygiene, promoting gender equality in education, and enhancing the health and confidence of adolescent girls.
The statement further reaffirmed GES’s resolve to build an inclusive, equitable, and responsive education system that meets the needs of every learner. It also urged girls to stay dedicated to their studies and make the most of available learning opportunities.
The GES expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education for its support in implementing the initiative, describing it as a transformative effort that upholds the welfare and dignity of schoolgirls nationwide.
