Ghana has reaffirmed its strong commitment to protecting refugees and promoting lasting solutions to displacement challenges on the global stage.
This pledge was renewed on Monday, October 6, 2025, when the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, addressed the 76th Annual Plenary Session of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Executive Committee in Geneva.
In his address, the Minister emphasized Ghana’s unwavering dedication to refugee protection and outlined the country’s collaborative efforts with countries of origin to implement comprehensive and legally sound durable solutions.
He reiterated Ghana’s steadfast support for the Global Compact for Refugees (GCR) and detailed the nation’s active role in tackling global refugee challenges.
Muntaka highlighted ongoing collaboration with the UNHCR to roll out the Ghana Refugee Agribusiness Sustainability Programme (GRASP) — a flagship initiative aimed at creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for both refugees and host communities.
He further noted that Ghana is partnering with neighbouring countries to craft a sub-regional strategy that strengthens national security while safeguarding refugee rights and advancing long-term reintegration measures.
The Minister also commended outgoing UNHCR High Commissioner Filippo Grandi for his outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing refugee protection and human rights worldwide.
