LAGOS — An interior designer, Deborah Moses, also known as Deb’rah Porsche, has been murdered in Lagos by her former boyfriend, months after the relationship ended. The incident, which occurred late Wednesday night, has sparked outrage among her family and activists, who are now demanding justice.
A police officer confirmed to Vanguard that the case has been transferred from the Oko-Oba Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti.
According to reports, the suspect gained access to the victim’s estate by disguising himself as a dispatch rider. When security became suspicious, he reportedly scaled the fence and proceeded to her apartment. Eyewitnesses said the suspect first attempted to cause an explosion by cutting the cooking gas pipe outside the house. When that plan failed, he allegedly broke into Deborah’s residence and stabbed her multiple times, leading to her death.
A relative of the victim said Deborah Moses had ended the relationship over a year ago, but had been repeatedly threatened by the suspect. “They have broken up for more than a year now. But this guy refused to move on. He keeps making statements like, ‘If I don’t have you, nobody will. If I don’t marry you, blood will flow,’” the relative stated.
The family also confirmed that Deborah had recently completed her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program and was building her career. She had been avoiding the suspect’s calls and advances before the tragic event.
Neighbours managed to restrain the suspect after the attack and handed him over to the police. He is currently in custody, while activists and family members have called for a thorough investigation, urging authorities not to let the case be swept under the carpet.
