President William Ruto has challenged Kenyan opposition leaders inciting youth to protest to present tangible solutions to their grievances rather than promoting unrest.
Speaking at State House Nairobi on Thursday, where he hosted Nairobi United Football Club—winners of the 2025 Mozzart Bet Cup—President Ruto called on his political opponents to move beyond slogans and demonstrate practical plans to address youth unemployment and other pressing challenges.
“I want my plan for creating employment opportunities for our young people to be tested against that of my competitors,” he said.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and Nairobi United Chairman Samwel Born Maina were present at the event.
The President emphasized his constitutional duty to safeguard the lives and property of all Kenyans, saying he would carry out this responsibility “without fear or favour.”
“For now, I am the protector of the Constitution, and I will make sure that it is obeyed to the letter,” he added.
Commending Nairobi United’s impressive performance, Ruto celebrated the club’s journey to victory, highlighting their resilience and commitment. He pledged to donate a bus to the team and promised continued government support to help them achieve greater success.
Reiterating that youth are Kenya’s greatest asset, the President said his administration is intentionally investing more in education, training, and sports to harness their potential. He announced ongoing efforts to expand sporting infrastructure nationwide, as outlined in the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.
Ruto condemned the vandalism of the under-construction Talanta Stadium during recent protests, calling the act unpatriotic.
He also outlined key development plans for Nairobi, including ongoing clean-up of the Nairobi River—expected to be completed by 2027—enhanced waste management, and improved road networks.
“Nairobi, as the headquarters of the United Nations Environmental Programme, must be made clean by all means,” he said.
