Zimbabwean football has been thrown into mourning following the deaths of three senior Highlanders Football Club officials in a tragic road accident on Thursday night.
Highlanders chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, vice chairman Sifiso Siziba and treasurer Nkani Khoza were killed in the crash, which occurred along the Harare–Bulawayo highway, about 60 kilometres outside Bulawayo.
According to reports, the officials were travelling in a Ford Raptor when the vehicle struck a cow before veering into the path of an oncoming bus, resulting in a head-on collision.
The three club executives, along with an unidentified woman, were trapped in the wreckage and died at the scene.
The officials were returning from Kariba after Highlanders suffered a 1-0 defeat to ZPC Kariba in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match on Wednesday.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through Zimbabwe’s football community, with tributes expected to pour in for the club’s late officials.
