3 Civilians and 7 Gunmen Killed in Attack on Ghana Army Convoy

At least three civilians have been killed in an attack carried out by an unknown gunmen on the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) convoy.

GAF confirmed the attack in a statement, saying the incident happened in Binduri in the Upper East Region.

In the statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the Ghanaian army disclosed that the deadly attack happened on Monday, April 27, 2026, when a convoy transporting about 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga came under heavy gunfire.

The statement noted that the attackers opened fire multiple times on the convoy, leading to the death of three civilians and leaving one person injured.

It says the army responded and repelled the attack, killing seven of the assailants in the process, adding that “In the process the military successfully repelled the attack on the convoy, resulting in the death of 7 assailants.”

According to the statement, during a follow-up operation, soldiers recovered weapons and ammunition from one of the suspects who attempted to hide in a mosque.

It noted that “In pursuit, the military discovered and retrieved from an escapee who went to a mosque, a G3 automatic rifle, 2 filled magazines of 20 rounds each and 176 rounds of additional ammunition.”

Ten other suspects have since been arrested and are currently assisting with investigations.
