Two Nigerian citizens have been sentenced to seven years in prison after a Kuwaiti court upheld their convictions for their roles in the armed robbery of a currency exchange shop.
The pair were arrested by the General Department of Criminal Investigation in Kuwait’s Ahmadi Governorate following investigations into the robbery of a money exchange outlet in the Mahboula area in January 2025.
On Monday, July 20, 2026, the Court of Appeal affirmed prison terms handed down by a lower court, sentencing the two Nigerians to seven years and six months’ imprisonment in connection with the robbery.
The ruling was delivered by the Second Circuit of the Court of Appeal, chaired by Counselor Nasr Salem Al-Haid, with Counselors Mutaib Al-Aradhi and Saud Al-Sane serving on the panel.
According to prosecutors, the first four defendants conspired to steal cash from the exchange shop.
The second defendant allegedly threatened victims with a fake firearm, enabling the third and fourth defendants to carry out the theft with the assistance of the first defendant.
A fifth defendant was accused of collaborating with the group by helping conceal the stolen money and providing support after the robbery.
The Criminal Court had earlier convicted the first and fifth defendants in person, while the remaining defendants were tried and sentenced in absentia.
Under the original judgment, the first four defendants received seven-year prison terms, while the fifth defendant was sentenced to six months in prison after the court amended the charges and legal description of the offences. The Court of Appeal has now upheld those convictions and sentences.
