Ghana’s music industry is poised for a major breakthrough thanks to a new initiative from Spotify and Sony Music Publishing. The two giants recently teamed up to host a special Publishing Camp in Ghana, equipping local musicians, producers, publishers, and songwriters with the tools and knowledge to reach a global audience.
The camp, which drew around 150 attendees, featured exclusive panel discussions with industry heavyweights like Ghanaian producer GuiltyBeatz and Wale Davies, also known as Tec from Show Dem Camp. These experts shared invaluable insights on current production trends, creative techniques, and effective promotion strategies.
“Amplifying African artists is a core value that drives the work we do,” said Phiona Okumu, Head of Music at Spotify Sub-Saharan Africa. She highlighted the importance of strong songwriting in creating resonant tracks, adding, “it is only fitting that we… host a dedicated session for techniques that go into crafting the lyrics, beats, and melodies that make us fall in love with a song.”
GuiltyBeatz stressed the importance of authenticity and creative freedom in crafting timeless classics during his panel. He encouraged attendees to draw inspiration from diverse sources and keep their ears on the ground for fresh ideas.
Beyond production and songwriting tips, the camp provided a hands-on masterclass on leveraging Spotify’s creative support platform, Spotify for Artists. This platform offers data-driven insights and promotional tools designed to help artists maximize their reach and connect with fans worldwide.
This initiative marks a significant step towards empowering African musicians and showcasing their talent on a global stage, signaling a vibrant future for Ghana’s music scene.
