President William Ruto has announced a KSh15 billion investment package for Kenya’s Wajir County aimed at boosting economic growth, improving living standards, and creating employment opportunities for residents.
Speaking during a development tour of Eldas Constituency on Tuesday, the President said the government will construct 18 modern markets, 2,000-bed student hostels, and 4,600 affordable housing units across the county as part of the ambitious investment plan.
Ruto said the projects are designed to expand economic opportunities, enhance access to quality housing, and support education infrastructure in the region.

During the visit, the President laid the foundation stone for the construction of a 580-bed student hostel at Eldas Teachers Training College.
The facility is expected to improve accommodation for students and strengthen teacher training in the area.
The Head of State also commissioned the KSh460 million Eldas Water Supply Project, which is expected to improve access to clean and reliable water for residents. He further pledged an additional KSh900 million to expand water infrastructure and address water shortages in the constituency and surrounding areas.
Addressing residents in Eldas town, Ruto emphasized the importance of education and urged parents across Northern Kenya to ensure their children attend school and benefit from the government’s continued investment in the sector.
He noted that education remains a key pillar in the country’s development agenda and called on communities to support efforts aimed at increasing school enrollment and retention rates.
