Ghana Opposition Leader Mahama Proposes New City To Ease Congestion In Accra

The former President of Ghana and main opposition National Democratic Party (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has proposed the development of a new to reduce the growing congestion in Accra, the capital city of Ghana.

 

Mr. Mahama says he will begin a feasibility study for the construction of the new city.

 

According to him, the move is to create a new growth pole and generate thousands of jobs during the construction phase and post construction.

 

He disclosed that the future city could span three regions namely Greater Accra, Volta, and Eastern.

 

According to him, Accra would remain the capital city, adding that the new city to be constructed would be close to the Volta Lake.

 

Mr. Mahama who is seeking a second back to the presidency, says the future city would be a green, digital Metropolis featuring tourist and recreational, industrial parks and financial services centres.
