Chairperson of African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has condemned the recent alleged massacre in a village in the central part of Sudan.

The massacre was reportedly carried out in Wad al Nourah, Gezira state, in Sudan on June 5, 2024. The paramilitary group fighting the Sudanese army, Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has been blamed for the massacre of the 150 villagers. RSF and the army of Sudan have for over 13 months been fighting over control of the country.

In a statement dated Friday, June 7, 2024, Mr. Mahamat said he has “learned with horror the devastating news that at least one hundred and fifty civilians, and including at least thirty-five children, have been indiscriminately killed in ongoing attacks on the town.”

Mr. Mahamat bemoaned that “this horrific death toll is a grim reminder that in this senseless war, women and children bear the brunt of the wanton destruction perpetrated by the warring parties.”
