Opoku Ware SHS Becomes Ghana’s First Smart School As VP Bawumia Hands Over Digital Devices

A secondary school in Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti Region, Opoku Ware Senior High School, has become Ghana’s first smart school for the public sector.

The school attained the status after Ghana’s Vice President and Presidential candidate for the 2024 General elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, inaugurated its new classroom block equipped with several digital devices.

The digital devices presented to Opoku Ware Senior High School included computers, smart boards, and internet access to facilitate usage.

The newly inaugurated smart block was named after Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

It would be recalled that March 25, 2024, Mr. Akufo-Addo launched the Ghana Smart School Project. He announced during the launch that existing school facilities in public senior high schools were to be transformed into smart schools while new structures would be built for schools in some areas.

Launching the Opoku Ware Senior High School Smart Block, Dr. Bawumia who has been campaigning in the Ashanti Region for three days now, “Ghana is among few countries in the world where government supplies students with tablet computers to ensure the future does not elude our children.”
