Belgian football manager, Vincent Kompany, has signed as the new head coach of German club, FC Bayern Munich.
Kompany, who led English club, Burnley to relegation in the just ended season, will stay at the Allianz Arena until 2027.
He signed for Bayern on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, after days of speculations about his future and Bayern’s next coach after the Bundesliga side parted ways with their German coach, Thomas Tuchel.
As part of the deal which has taken many in the footballing world by surprise, Bayern will reportedly pay Burnley around €10 to €12 million in compensation fee.
Speaking on his three years contract and his vision for the club which has been poor form in recent time, Kompany says “I am looking forward to the challenge at FC Bayern”.
The former Manchester City centre-back who was reportedly highly recommended to Bayern by Spanish football manager, Pep Guardiola, added: “It’s a great honor to be able to work for this club, FC Bayern is an institution in international football always.”
Kompany, an ex-Anderlecht player said: “As coach, you have to stand for who you are as a person; I love having possession of the ball, creative and so we also have to be aggressive on the pitch and brave.”
He added: “I am looking forward to the most basic things: working with the players, building a team. When the foundation is in place, success will follow.”
Kompany led Burnley to the English Championship title in 2022, securing them automatic promotion to the Premier League, the English top-tier football competition. However, he could not keep them in the league as they got relegated along with Luton Town and Sheffield United, the first time in several years for all three newly-promoted clubs to the Premier League to be relegated together during their first spell.
