Tanzania’s First Gentleman, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has died.
Hafidh Ameir died on Monday, September 7, 2026, while receiving medical treatment in Zanzibar, according to an announcement by Tanzania’s Vice President, Deogratius Ndejembi.
His death has sparked an outpouring of condolences from across Tanzania, with citizens and public officials mourning the loss of the First Gentleman and extending their sympathies to President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the bereaved family.
Hafidh Ameir had been married to President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania’s first female president, and served as the country’s First Gentleman during her presidency.
