US President Donald Trump was covertly transferred to a different military aircraft in Turkey last month after US security officials received what was described as a credible assassination threat linked to Iran, according to reports in American media.
The security operation reportedly took place after a NATO summit in Ankara. While the White House publicly indicated that Trump would travel to Britain aboard the ageing Air Force One aircraft with members of the press and senior aides, the president was allegedly moved in secret to a separate C-32A military jet.
Reports said Trump was concealed inside an airport catering vehicle and transported to the alternative aircraft shortly after boarding the presidential plane, which served as a decoy.
Upon arrival at RAF Mildenhall in the United Kingdom, the president was reportedly driven back to the Air Force One aircraft before making a public appearance and disembarking in front of the travelling media contingent.
Commenting on the reports, White House Communications Director Steve Cheung defended the measures, saying authorities “use every tool at our disposal to address those threats” amid continuing concerns over foreign security risks facing the president.
