NIGERIA: Tragic End for NYSC Member Musa Usman Abba After N10m Ransom Payment

The family of Musa Usman Abba, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and graduate of Federal University Gusau, has scheduled a funeral prayer in absentia (Janaza Gha’ib) following reports of his death at the hands of abductors. The tragedy comes despite the family paying a ₦10 million ransom for his release.

The Kidnapping and Torture Video

Musa Usman Abba, a graduate of Plant Science and Biotechnology, was kidnapped on January 9, 2026, while traveling from Gusau, Zamfara State, to Sokoto State. Shortly after his disappearance, his captors established contact with his family, demanding ₦10 million.

During the negotiation period, a distressing video surfaced showing Abba being subjected to torture. In the footage, he was seen gasping in pain and desperately pleading for his life.

“Please help me, for God’s sake, please help my life. I may soon die in this situation,” he cried, invoking religious appeals to the public and his family. “For the sake of Allah, please help me. For the sake of Prophet Muhammad, please help me.”

Ransom Payment and Abductor Silence

Through the contributions of relatives and well-wishers, the family successfully raised the ₦10 million demanded by the kidnappers. However, following the payment, the abductors reportedly made additional demands for motorcycles. When the family stopped meeting further demands after a sudden break in communication, fears grew that the corps member had been killed.

Sources close to the family confirmed that all communication from the kidnappers ceased immediately after the initial ₦10 million was received, leading to the grim conclusion that Abba did not survive the ordeal.

Funeral Rites and Family Statement

In accordance with Islamic rites for those whose bodies have not been recovered, the family has arranged to hold his Janaza prayer (Gha’ib) on Friday, March 6, 2026.

The family issued a statement expressing gratitude to the public for their support during the two-month crisis:

“Abba’s family wishes to express profound gratitude to everyone who offered support, prayers, donations, and kind words during this difficult period. May the Almighty reward your generosity abundantly.”

They concluded with a prayer for his soul: “If he has passed on, may Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.”

Investigation Status

As of Friday morning, police authorities in Zamfara and Sokoto states have not issued an official comment on the development or the status of the investigation into the kidnapping ring responsible for the act.
