SCID Opens Inquiry into Sudden Deaths of Two Nollywood Crew Members in Lekki

The Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, has launched a formal investigation into the deaths of two prominent Nollywood crew members found lifeless inside a vehicle in Lekki Phase 1. The victims, identified as Godstime Imeh (CEO of GeeTee Light) and Walter Odediran (popularly known as Director Carrinqton), were discovered on the evening of Saturday, February 7, 2026.

The Scene and Circumstances

The incident occurred on a film set for a movie reportedly directed by former Big Brother Naija housemate, Boma. According to crew accounts, Imeh and Odediran arrived early to set up lighting equipment for a medical scene scheduled at Evercare Hospital.

After finishing their initial setup around 10:00 a.m., the two men went to rest inside Imeh’s tinted Nissan while keeping the engine and air-conditioning running. A crew member delivered a breakfast of yam and omelette to the vehicle at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Discovery of the Bodies

Concern began to grow when calls to both men went unanswered starting around noon. It was not until the end of the day’s shoot, between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., that colleagues checked the vehicle and found both men deceased.

Walter Odediran’s brother, Kola, described the harrowing scene:

  • Walter Odediran (36): Found seated upright with foam at his mouth.
  • Godstime Imeh: Found slumped, with blood coming from his nose, eyes, and mouth.

Investigation and Custody

The family of the deceased expressed initial frustration with the Maroko Police Station, alleging a lack of urgency, which led to the case being escalated to the SCID in Yaba. The police have since classified the event as an “unnatural death.”

Current status of the inquiry:

  • Questioned: The director/producer (Boma), the staff member who delivered the meal, and hospital management.
  • In Custody: The food vendor who prepared the breakfast remains in police custody.
  • Forensics: Autopsies and toxicology tests are being conducted to determine if the cause of death was ingestion-related or environmental.

Environmental Factors: The Generator Theory

Investigators are looking closely at the parking location. Reports indicate that heavy-duty industrial generators were situated directly above the parking space where the Nissan was stationed. Authorities are exploring the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning, exacerbated by the vehicle’s running engine and its position near industrial exhaust.

Family in Mourning

The Odediran family has described the loss as devastating, noting that Walter was the last-born of the family and a close professional partner to Imeh. “It appeared whatever happened occurred suddenly,” Kola Odediran remarked, highlighting the shock of losing two vibrant professionals in their prime.

Lagos State authorities have emphasized that all possibilities remain under consideration pending the results of the laboratory and mechanical inspections of the vehicle.
