Ondo Landlady Arrested for Allegedly Poisoning Tenant’s Three-Year-Old Son

The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended 40-year-old Nafisat Lateef for allegedly poisoning a three-year-old boy in the Omifon community of Odigbo Local Government Area. The arrest was confirmed on Friday following a swift investigation by police detectives.

The Incident and Motivation

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, around 8:30 a.m. The suspect, who is the landlady of the victim’s family, reportedly targeted the child, identified as Abdulrasheed, following a domestic dispute.

Preliminary reports suggest that a misunderstanding had occurred between Nafisat and her tenant, Rofiat, who is the victim’s mother. In an alleged act of retaliation, the suspect is said to have administered a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous to the young boy.

Shortly after consuming the substance, Abdulrasheed began vomiting and showing signs of distress. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received urgent medical attention.

During the subsequent investigation, police detectives recovered the liquid substance believed to have been used in the poisoning.

Police Statement and Next Steps

DSP Jimoh confirmed that the suspect was apprehended during an “intelligence-led operation” and is currently providing statements to the police.

“The suspect is currently in police custody and has made useful statements,” Jimoh noted. “Shortly after consuming the substance, the child began vomiting and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received medical attention.”

The Ondo State Police Command has launched a full inquiry into the matter. Authorities have stated that the case will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded to ensure justice is served.
